Study on Copolymerization of Vinyl Acetate and Vinyl Neodecanoate and Properties of the Copolymers
The copolymers of vinyl acetate and vinyl neodecanoate from vinyl acetate(AVc)and vinyl neodecanoate(VV10)monomers were synthesized via seeded emulsion polymerization with polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)as protective colloid, ammonium persulfate(APS)as initiator and polyoxyethylene alkyl ether as emulsion agent, respectively. The results showed that, with increase of the amount of the seeded monomer, the particle diameter of the copolymer emulsion increase from 817 nm to 1 752 nm.The smaller particle diameter leaded to better stiffening finishing effect. With increase of the amount of the monomer VV10,the glass transition temperature of the resulted copolymer decrease from 31.8℃to 25.3℃,and the contact angle of the copolymer films increase from 59.0° to 70.0°,then the copolymer exhibits good hydrophobicity.
