Study on the Synthesis of Highly Effective Herbicide Paraquat Key Intermediate 4,4'-Bipyridine
4,4'-bipyridine is not only an organic ligand in metal catalyzed reactions, but also an important raw material and intermediate for efficient herbicide glyphosate. The effects of different catalyst supports, copper metal loading, solvents, and reaction temperature on the reaction were investigated using pyridine as raw material and Cu/Beta catalyst for oxidative coupling to generate 4,4'-bipyridine.The experimental results showed that selecting pyridine as the raw material,6%Cu/Beta as the catalyst, dimethyl sulfoxide as the reaction solvent,100 ℃,and 12 h were the optimal reaction conditions for synthesizing 4,4'-bipyridine,with a conversion rate of 94.3%and a selectivity of 96.7%.
