Study on Antibacterial and Antioxidant Effects of Three Kinds of Plants Essential Oil and Hydrolat in Shower Gel and Hand Sanitizer
The essential oil and hydrolat of Oregano,Rosemary and Artemisia argyi was employed as antibacterial and antioxidant components to make shower gel and hand sanitizer.The bacteriostatic performance of these products were determined by filter paper method and bacteriostatic rate method and compared with products which were added traditional chemical antibacterial antioxidants.DPPH method,salicylic acid method and prussian blue method were employed to compare the antioxidant capacity of each product in vitro.The results showed that when the dosage of Oregano hydrolat was 5%~15%,rosemary Hydrolat was 1%~15%,and Artemisia argyi hydrolat was 1%~15%,they were highly sensitive to Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli and Candida albicans.The results of bacteriostatic rate experiment and field hand disinfection experiment indicated that the hand sanitizer and shower gel products with plant essential oil and hydrolat and the products with chemical bacteriostatic antioxidants had significant bacteriostatic effects on the three tested strains.The antioxidant test results showed that the DPPH·scavenging ability and reducing power of the shower gel products added chlorhexidine acetate were the strongest,and the shower gel products added plant essential oil and pure dew had the same antioxidant capacity as the chemical antibacterial antioxidant Shower gel products.Hand sanitizer products with 0.4%Oregano essential oil or Rosemary essential oil showed stronger antioxidant activity than those products added with chemical antibacterial antioxidants.The results of this study can provide important reference for enterprises to add essential oil and hydrolat of Oregano,Rosemary and Artemisia argyi to produce green daily chemical products,provide support for reducing the toxicity and carcinogenic hazards of chemical antibacterial antioxidants in daily chemical products,and give full play to the advantages of natural antibacterial antioxidants,such as high bacteriostasis and low toxicity.
