A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)method was established to determine the content of geraniol in cosmetics. After ethanol ultrasonic extraction and centrifugation of shampoo and lipstick samples, direct detection was carried out after filtration with 0.22 μm microporous filter membrane.Qualitative analysis using retention time and characteristic ions, and quantitative analysis using external standard method. The linear relationship of geraniol in cosmetics is good within the concentration range of 0.2 mg/L to 10 mg/L,with a correlation coefficient of R2=0.9965.With the addition of 2,3 and 5 mg/L,the standard addition recovery of geraniol in shampoo is 95.45%~106.28%,the relative standard deviations(RSDs)are 2.66%~9.22%(n=6),and the standard addition recovery in lipstick is 92.64%~99.14%,the RSDs are 4.53%~6.40%(n=6).This indicates that the method is suitable for the determination of geraniol in cosmetics.
