Analysis and Prevention of Corrosion and Cracking Failure of Sealing Rings
The failed sample is a fluororubber sealing ring, which leaked oil during use and was corroded. In order to identify the cause of the sealing ring corrosion, the morphology was analyzed using a scanning electron microscope, the elements were analyzed using an X-ray energy spectrometer, and the components of the sealing ring and oil-based mud were analyzed using a pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that the oil-based mud contained fatty tertiary amines, which attack the proton hydrogen in the main structure of vinylidene fluoride hexafluoropropylene, causing corrosion of the sealing ring and resulting in oil leakage.
