Review on Methods for the Detection of Salicylic Acid in Aspirin
Salicylic acid is a toxic substance produced by the hydrolysis of ester groups in the molecule due to incomplete acetylation or acid, alkali, heat and other conditions in the production process of aspirin. The production of salicylic acid in clinical application seriously restricts the application of aspirin preparations in clinical application. Therefore, the determination of salicylic acid content and impurity control in the API and formulation process are crucial. At present, the common identification methods of salicylic acid impurities in aspirin mainly include colorimetry, high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, high performance capillary electrophoresis, spectrophotometry,Raman spectroscopy, and flow injection analysis.
