Preparation and Properties of P(VA-g-MAA)/Ag Gas Sensing Composite
In recent years, explosive accidents in chemical plants have emerged in an endless stream, and the safety risks caused by the leakage of toxic and flammable gases are increasing day by day.The design and preparation of polymer gas sensing materials for monitoring gases is an urgent issue to be addressed.Polymer/nano silver conductive composites can be used as polymer gas sensing materials for the detection of flammable, explosive, toxic, and harmful gases.Poly(vinyl alcohol graft methacrylic acid)(P(VA-g-MAA))paste was prepared by grafting methacrylic acid onto polyvinyl alcohol using ceric ammonium nitrate as an initiator. Then, silver nanoparticles conductive polymer paste was prepared using P(VA-g-MAA)as a template or nanoreactor, and AgNO3 was in-situ reduced with trisodium citrate.According to infrared spectroscopy testing, the sample has characteristic absorption peaks of polyvinyl alcohol and methacrylic acid in the infrared spectrum, indicating the successful preparation of P(VA-g-MAA).The morphology of silver nanoparticles was observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and it was found that the silver nanoparticles were spherical. The prepared P(VA-g-MAA)/Ag paste was coated on the electrode sheet to prepare a gas sensing element. The resistance values were measured in different organic solvents. It was found that the acetone and petroleum ether solvents had high responsiveness and could be used as gas sensors for detecting acetone and petroleum ether.
