Characteristics of Heavy Metal Content and Health Risk Assessment in Centralized Drinking Water Sources in Western Zhuhai
This article is based on heavy metal monitoring data from 11 drinking water sources in the western region of Zhuhai City in 2023.Based on the exposure parameters of the Chinese population,a health risk assessment model recommended by the US Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA)was applied to conduct a health risk assessment of 10 heavy metals for local residents in the western region of Zhuhai. The results show that the average annual values of 10 heavy metals in drinking water sources in the western region of Zhuhai all meet the limit requirements of Class I of the Surface Water Environmental Quality Standard(GB 3838-2002)and the Standard for Drinking Water(GB 5749-2022).The mean total health risks for children and adults were 4.39 × 10-5 and 4.23×10-5 a-1,respectively,both within the maximum acceptable level threshold recommended by the International Committee on Radiological Protection(ICRP)(5×10-5),but the total health risks for children were slightly higher than those for adults. The risk of heavy metal carcinogenic pollutants is much greater than the health risk of non carcinogenic pollutants, and hexavalent chromium is the main object of heavy metal pollution risk control in the study area.
