In this work, epoxy emulsion with 15%solid content was introduced into pine by vacuum impregnation. The effects of water-based epoxy on the dimensional stability of pine were investigated by evaluating the equilibrium moisture content(EMC),water absorption and volume expansion, volume expansion resistance(ASE)and contact angle of pine before and after modification. The results show that the EMC value of modified pine is 6.107,which is 32.611%lower than that of blank pine. After 192 h water absorption, the water absorption rate and volume expansion rate of blank pine were 73.582%and 10.709%,respectively,while the water absorption rate and volume expansion rate of the pine treated with epoxy emulsion were 58.715%and 5.438%,respectively,showing a significant decline. After 3 dry-wet cycles,ASE of epoxy emulsion treated pine wood was 36.183%.In addition, the contact angles of the end face and section of the blank pine were 77.8°±1.9° and 96.6°±2.5°,respectively,while the contact angles of the end face and section of the epoxy emulsion treated pine were 98.8°±3.9° and 121.2°±2.2°.This indicates that the dimensional stability of pine wood can be effectively improved by using water-based epoxy modification.
