The mediating effect of poor eating behavior between overweight/obesity and obstructive sleep apnea
Objective To explore the mediating effect of poor eating behavior between overweight/obesity(OW/0B)and obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).Methods A total of 125 hospitalized patients with OSA combined with OW/OB were selected and assessed with Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire(TFEQ-R21).All patients were divided into overweight group, obesity one group and obesity two group according to their body mass indexes(BMIs).The association between OW/OB,poor eating behavior(i.e.,cognitive restraint, uncontrolled eating, and emotional eating)and OSA was assessed by linear regression analyses and the mediating effect of poor eating behavior on the association between OW/OB and OSA was evaluated through Sobel test of the coefficient product test. Results There existed significant differences in AHI,BMI,total score and uncontrolled eating dimension score of TFEQ-R21 among three groups(P<0.01).BMI was positively correlated with AHI(P<0.01).The uncontrolled eating dimension score of TFEQ-R21 was positively correlated with BMI and AHI(P<0.01).There existed significant differences in scores of items 3,8,13,15 of uncontrolled eating dimension score of TFEQ-R21(P<0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the data fitted well(R=0.520,P<0.01).Uncontrolled eating dimension score of TFEQ-R21 and BMI could explain 27.1%of the total variation of OSA(R2=0.271).The mediation analysis showed that the mediation pathway"OW/OB→ uncontrolled eating→ OSA"was statistically significant in the association between OW/OB and OSA(P<0.01),and the mediation effect of uncontrolled eating accounted for 14.40%.Conclusion OSA is associated with OW/OB and poor eating behavior,in which uncontrolled eating may partially mediate the total effect of the association between OW/0B and OSA.
