Effect of dance movement therapy on metabolism of inpatients with chronic schizophrenia
Objective To explore the effect of dance movement therapy on metabolism of inpatients with chronic schizophrenia. Methods A total of 80 inpatients with chronic schizophrenia were randomly divided into intervention group(dance movement group)and control group(40 inpatients in each group). Both groups were treated normally, and intervention group added dance movement therapy. The two groups were given measurements of body mass, waist circumference, blood pressure(SBP,DBP),fasting blood glucose(FBG),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)at baseline and at the ends of the 12th,24th weeks after treatment. Results Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that the body mass and waist circumference of intervention group showed a decreasing trend over time(P<0.001),while the body mass and waist circumference of control group at the end of the 24th week were higher than those at the baseline(P<0.001);the differences in body mass and waist circumference between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.001).The DBP of intervention group showed a decreasing trend over time(P<0.001),and the difference in DBP between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.001).Conclusion Dance movement therapy can improve body mass, waist circumference, and DBP in inpatients with chronic schizophrenia.
