Reconstructing the"Original Space"of Children's Education:An Educational Interpretation Based on Merleau-Ponty's Phenomenology of the Body
Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of the body offers a way back to and from the origin of children's education.From the viewpoint of the origin of education,children's education is based on children's original experience in the life world,and takes place in the original situation between children and educational activities.The"original space,"as the place where the child's original sit-uation occurs,contains the child's experience and insight of the situation based on his own physical and mental integrity in the original situation constituted by the educational activities.Nowadays,children's education is neglecting the connection between education and the living world,and the connection between children and the nature of the world.In the face of the loss of the origin of chil-dren's education,the first thing educators need to do is to construct the"original space"of chil-dren's education,that is,to understand the overall existence of children's subjects in the world through understanding themselves;to return to the essential connection between children's education and the world of life through creating authentic situation of educational activities;to return to the ba-sic situation of children's experience of individual life through viewing children's educational activi-ties in the spirit of play.So that children can return to the world that"already exists"and rediscover the natural connection between children and the world.
