Textual Interpretation of"Sui"and"Ning"in the Inscriptions of the Duke Sui Xu and Ningyang Dayu Story
The term () on Duke Sui Xu is Sui(遂),and it refers to the old location of small vassal states in the Zhou periods which located in Heshan and Fushan,and surrounding areas in the northwest of Ningyang today.Duke Sui made the Xu in Sui which is the Ningyang today,in order to remember Yu the Great and his morality,and to encourage himself and descendants to establish achievements in Ningyang,or there is one reason that Yu the Great maybe is the local person of Ningyang."Ning"is an ancient name,and it refers to Ningyang today,which got the name at the beginning of the pre-Qin and Western Zhou Dynasty or earlier in the Shang Dynasty and the meaning is to be obedient.Therefore,the interpretation of Yu the Great in Ningyang is worth our attention.
