Artificial Rearing of a Baby Golden Snub-nosed Monkey(Rhinopithecus roxellana)
On June 24,2021,a female golden snub-nosed monkey died from postpartum tetanus infection in Jinan Zoo.The baby monkey was artificially reared by animal keepers.The baby monkey weighed 960 g when it was taken out.The baby monkey was fed artificial milk formulated with infant formula.As the age increased,complementary foods such as fruit juice,fruit,egg yolk,and leaves were added;At the age of 192 days,the baby monkey weighed 1535 g and began group training.,it was caged with an adult individual during the day and returned to the nursery at night;At the age of 281 days,the baby monkeys were officially caged and returned to the group with an adult individual.Through learning and imitation,the baby monkey's leaf intake rapidly increased;At the age of 365 days,the baby monkey grew into sub adulthood and was successfully artificially reared.
