Characterization of Leaf Functional Traits of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa and Its Responses to Environmental Factors in Fujian Islands
In order to study the leaf functional traits of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa and their relationships with environmental factors, and to reveal the adaptation strategies of island R.tomentosa scrub to environmental changes. The effects of environmental factors on the leaf functional traits of R.tomentosa were analyzed by measuring 9 leaf functional traits and 17 environmental factors on Dongshan Island,Culu Island, muyu Island, and Xiluo Island along the coast of Fujian Province. The results showed that the coefficients of variation of leaf functional traits of R.tomentosa ranged from 0.94%to 16.93%,with leaf phosphorus content showing the highest variation(16.93%)and leaf carbon content the lowest(0.94%),and the overall leaf functional traits of R.tomentosa remained relatively stable. There were certain correlations among the functional traits of R.tomentosa leaves, and the relationships among the functional traits were close.Redundancy analysis revealed that leaf functional traits of R.tomentosa in Fujian Island were mainly influenced by environmental factors such as soil total potassium, soil nitrogen, wind speed, and mean annual temperature. The results of this study showed that the leaves of myrtle can be adapted better to the harsh environment of the islands through certain trait variations and combinations. The results of the above study can deepen the understanding of the response characteristics of R.tomentosa to different island habitats and its ecological strategies in the islands, and provide important references for the conservation and utilization of R.tomentosa wild germplasm resources as well as the maintenance of island vegetation.
