From"The Solitary Crane Flies with Wings"to"The Light of Translation"——The"Call to Arms"in Lu Xun's Early Literary Activities
Lu Xun's early literary activities can be roughly divided into two main phases:the period of his study in Japan and the"silent decade"upon his return to China. While it is commonly perceived that Lu Xun's early literary efforts served as a preparatory phase for his participation in the May Fourth literary revolution, this viewpoint may understate the significance of these activities. In fact, during this period,Lu Xun had already begun the literary path that he would pursue later, involving both the introduction of foreign literature and the pursuit of new literary creations and academic research. Some of his important early articles and literary activities can be seen as a prelude to his later"Call to Arms,"or even as its initial inception. Therefore,a re-examination of Lu Xun's association with the regional cultural nuances of Shaoxing and the impact of his surroundings in Beijing is imperative in understanding his early literary works comprehensively.
