Patch,Corridor and Matrix:An Ecological Approach to Platform Society Governance
The"ecosystem convergence"between the dominant platform infrastructure led by the five major platforms in the United States and the U.S.political system has brought about a global shift towards the"Americanization"of the social-ecological system.Under the regulatory meta-rules produced by the platforms, regions and domains worldwide are interconnected by corridors filled with Western ideologies and values. The"excessive connectivity"brought by super-corridors has led to the transference and aggregation of"unique risks"within any given patch to risks in other patches.Consequently, the relationship between"risk"and"security"is transitioning from traditional mutually exclusive to complex symbiotic relationships. The uniqueness of the platform society and the systemic issues it generates make it difficult for traditional"subject-oriented"approaches to social governance to match the current social-ecological characteristics, leading to a phenomenon of"governance failure"in global social governance. As the only heterogeneous factor with the ability of reverse diffusion,Chinese platforms have the potential to establish new ways of connectivity for the social-ecological system. The"going global"strategy of Chinese platforms holds urgent practical significance for the governance of the global platform society ecology.
