Current Situation and Risk Analysis of Chemical Sunscreens Used in Common Make-up Cosmetics
Objective To investigate the addition and use of chemical sunscreens in BB cream,CC cream, liquid foundation and other ordinary cosmetics claiming isolation effect and the authenticity of labels and signs, and to find out the safety risks of such products. Methods 1008 batches of BB cream,CC cream, liquid foundation and other common make-up cosmetics with isolation effect were randomly selected nationwide.22 kinds of chemical sunscreens in these cosmetics were detected, according to high performance liquid chromatography method newly added in"Cosmetic Safety Technical Specification"(2015 Edition). The test results were compared with the labels and signs of samples to analyze the frequency, types, dosage and consistency between measured values and formulas. Results A total of 8 kinds of sunscreens were detected in common make-up cosmetics, among which the use frequency of 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate was 15.4%.Nearly 20%of these samples were added with one kind or 2-3 kinds of chemical sunscreens. All of the contents detected were below the limits specified in the standard.Unlabeled sunscreens of certain safety risks were detected in 18 batches of samples, accounting for 1.79%.Conclusion Some make-up cosmetics have potential safety hazards due to addition of unlabeled sunscreens. So regulatory authorities should pay continuous attention to use of sunscreens in make-up cosmetics, strengthen the publicity and management of proper use of labels, and ensure the safety of the use of make-up cosmetics by consumers.
