Effect of Phenylethanol Glycosides from Cistanche on Rats with High Altitude Pulmonary Edema
Objective To study the effects of prophylactic administration of phenylethanol glycosides from cistanche(PhGC)son rats with high altitude pulmonary edema(HAPE)and the effects on the proliferation of pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cells(PASMC)in hypoxic culture. Methods The expression of aquaporin(AQP5)mRNA in the lung tissues of the rats in each group was measured by immunohistochemistry and fluorescence quantitative PCR,and the proliferation of PASMC in each group was detected with CCK-8 method. Results PhGCs could increase the expression levels of AQP5 mRNA and protein in the lung tissue5 of rats with HAPE.In addition, the proliferation of PASMC could be induced by hypoxia in 12 hours, but PhGCs could inhibit the hypoxia-induced proliferation of PASMC.Conclusion The ability of PhGCs to prevent the development of HAPE may be related to its ability to increase AQP5 mRNA and protein expressions in lung tissue.
