Six Elements of Sports Science Research Based on a Natural Science Perspective
Sports science research draws from research methods in natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to provide robust evidence supporting the formation of sports science theory. The rapid development of science and technology in recent years, along with the increasing demand for participation in major sporting events, has led to widespread adoption of natural science-based research in sports science. These researches warrant further consideration in six aspects:research scope, content boundaries, types of research, subject samples, experimental grouping, and the orientation and focus of research questions. This paper aims to argue and analyze typical issues that exist in the process of exploring sports science problems using natural science research methods and attempts to discuss norms and strategies for the aforementioned six elements. The study posits that:basic research does not fall within the research scope of sports training;basic research on cells and molecules exceeds the content boundary;the types of research can mirror clinical medical research settings and choose the best option based on specific problems;differences in competitive abilities and sample sizes between elite athletes and ordinary athletes are important factors affecting research reliability;the control group in experimental research is a crucial reference for highlighting the main research factor;and research questions should be oriented towards practical training issues, focusing on solving real-world problems and starting with smaller issues to delve into the essence of the problem.
