Systematic Review of Performance Comparison Between High-intensity Functional Training and Traditional Training——Based on Physical Fitness,Physiology, and Body Composition
Objective:To explore the differences in training effects between high-intensity functional training(HIFT)and traditional training. Methods:Through literature review, this study summarizes the effects of HIFT on physical fitness, physiology and body composition compared with the traditional training, and explores the research hotspots and frontiers. Results:A total of 15 relevant articles were included in the study. The results showed that:1)Physical fitness:the effects of HIFT on muscle strength, muscle endurance, and muscle power are better than those of aerobic exercise or high-intensity interval training,no significant difference from resistance training or combined aerobic and resistance training,or weaker than resistance training, and the training effect is affected by resistance load and population differences.HIFT can improve balance and agility more than traditional training.2)Physiology:HIFT is superior to combined aerobic and resistance training in improving aerobic capacity, comparable to high-intensity interval training and high-intensity aerobic training, but relatively better in improving muscle strength and power.HIFT also shows a good improvement effect in anaerobic capacity compared with traditional training.3)Body composition:HIFT has a similar effect on body composition compared with traditional training, suggesting that HIFT may be an efficient exercise type to improve the body composition of individuals with overweight or obesity.4)Subjects engaged in HIFT show higher exercise pleasure, compliance, and initiative due to the diverse and cyclic movement characteristics of HIFT.Conclusion:HIFT can improve muscle performance, physical balance, and agility,as well as enhance cardiopulmonary function and improve body composition. It is characterized with higher pleasure and initiative and can be used as a supplemental training method to traditional training.Suggestions:Future studies should explore HIFT prescription guidelines suitable for different populations and HIFT programs for different athletes based on training mode and intensity, and combine with the analysis of electromyography or biomechanical to study and clarify the biological mechanism from more perspectives.
