Abstract
John Henry Days is one of African American writer Colson Whitehead's early works.Ontographic writing is the typical narrative feature of the novel. It employs the ontographic writing by means of listing genres and juxtaposing thing perspectives and human perspective for the purpose of criticizing the current narrative of African American folk history. The ontographic writing aims to reveal the ontological existence of the text, the meaning of which is withdrawn and could not be exhausted.Such writing exhibits diverse folk histories and challenges the homogeneous and authorative version of African American history of folklore. Moreover,it manifests the ethnic consciousness and awakening in post-racial era.
