From the comprehensive analysis of medicinal property and Faxiang theory,combining modern pharmacology and clinical understanding,this paper explained the mechanism of Yuanzhi(Polygalae Radix)on dual regulation of heart and mind,and provided pharmaceutical and clinical basis for exploring the treatment of refractory diseases by Yuanzhi.It was found that the special medicinal Xiang of Yuanzhi is the basis of its medicinal science of calming heart and tranquilizing mind.We apply the efficacy characteristics of"acrid with resuscitation"and adopted the method of comprehensive analysis of image and property,which is not only helpful to understand the special efficacy of Yuanzhi in double regulation of heart and mind and the efficacy characteristics of"tranquilizing mind without blocking orifice,opening orifice without stirring mind",but also provide the pathway of"image thinking"for under-standing its advantages in treating mental disorders,sleep disorders,convulsion,stroke,epilepsy and other diseases.The comprehensive analysis of Xiang and property can also reveal the mechanism of Yuanzhi in restoring coordination between heart and kidney,and expand the application of Yuanzhi in treatment of mental disorders combined with its dual regulation of heart and mind.Therefore,it is an important method to explore the mechanism of Yuanzhi in the treatment of refractory and complicated diseases by applying comprehensive analysis of Xiang and property to explain the multi-pharmacological effect of Yuanzhi.
