LI Dongyuan's Academic Thoughts Based on Five Circuits and Six Qi——Centered on Epidemics of Renxu and Renchen
LI Dongyuan experienced two epidemics in his life, which had a direct impact on the formation of his academic thoughts. In traditional cognition, five circuits and six qi are one of the important influencing factors of epidemics. In the perspective of five circuits and six qi,we analyzed LI Dongyuan's academic thoughts and found that the abnormal weather of wind-fire and dryness-metal in the year of Renxu led to swollen-head infection, and then promoted the production of Puji Xiaodu Drink(普济消毒饮).The qi transformation of cold-dampness in the year of Renchen constituted the cognitive basis of"deficiency of spleen and stomach being the source of all diseases".The nature of"cold disease turning into heat"in the great plague of Renchen was in accordance with qi transformation state of yin fire. Therefore, the important influence of five circuits and six qi on LI Dongyuan's academic thoughts was verified. The collision and intersection of the forces of qi transformation were analyzed in the comparison of the two epidemics. The image-number theory behind the text was analyzed by employing heavenly stems and earthly branches,so as to reveal the profound relationship among five circuits and six qi,LI Dongyuan's specific academic issues and the overall academic framework, trying to provide a new perspective and new ideas for investigating the academic system of Jin and Yuan medical school.
