Efficacy of Scalp Acupuncture Combined with Acupoint Application to Treat Sleep Disorders in Children with Autism
Objective:To investigate the efficacy of scalp acupuncture combined with acupoint application on children's sleep disorder of autism(ASD).Methods:A total of 120children with ASD were included and then divided into the scalp acupuncture group(40 cases,2 dropout cases),the application group(40 cases,2 dropout cases),and the combined group(40 cases,1 dropout case)using the random number table method. All groups were treated with conventional rehabilitation therapy, including sand-play and be-havioral intervention. The scalp needle group was further treated with the scalp needle, the application group was further treated with acupoint application, and the combined group was further treated with similar scalp needle combined with acupoint application.Four weeks of treatment is one treatment. The treatment lasted for three treatment courses.Children's sleep habits questionnaire(CSHQ),family inventory of sleep habits(FISH),Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)sleep factors and Autism Treatment Evaluation Scale(ATEC)were used to evaluate the therapeutic effect before and after the treatment. Results:The total clinical effective rate of the combined group was 92.31%,which was better than that of scalp acupuncture group(71.05%)and application group(68.42%)(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total effective rate between the scalp acupuncture group and the application group(P>0.05).After treatment,CSHQ score(bedtime habit, sleep latency, sleep anxiety, sleep duration, night wake),FISH score,HAMD score and ATEC score in 3 groups were all improved compared with before treatment, with statistical difference(P<0.05).After treatment,CSHQ score,FISH score,HAMD sleep factor total score and ATEC total score in the combined group were better than those in scalp acupuncture group and application group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in scores between the scalp acupuncture group and the application group after treatment(P>0.05).Conclusion:Scalp acupuncture combined with acupoint application is effective in improving sleep disorders in children with ASD.
