Based on Jade Key to the Secluded Chamber,written by ZHENG Meijian,a Xin'an physician in the Qing Dynasty,this paper explores his academic thought on treating laryngeal diseases.ZHENG Meijian deeply analyzed the differences of pharynx and larynx in anatomy,function and pathological characteristics,and pointed out that the main causes of laryngeal diseases were wind pathogenic factors and heat toxicity.In terms of treatment,ZHENG Meijian adhered to the principle of nourishing yin,clearing heat,and treating both qi and blood.In terms of medication,the pioneering application of Zidi Powder(紫地散),Xinwu Powder(辛乌散),and various insufflation of powder drug became the basis for the formation of Yangyin Qingfei Decoction(养阴清肺汤).In terms of acupuncture and moxibustion,he pioneered"Kaifenglu Acupuncture","Qi Acupuncture","Puopi Acupuncture"and other characteristic acupuncture methods.The clinical Chinese medicine and acupunc-ture and moxibustion are flexible and can be used according to the condition of the patient,which were quite effective and unique.ZHENG Meijian accumulated a wealth of experience in treating laryngeal diseases for later generations.
