By reviewing ancient literature,the physiological functions and pathological changes of sovereign fire and ministerial fire,as well as the meaning of"sovereign fire being bright and ministerial fire keeping the position"are expounded.Combining with the pathogenesis of malignant tumors in biology,the correlation between"sovereign fire being bright and ministerial fire keeping the position"and the occurrence and development of malignant tumors is analyzed.It is proposed that sovereign fire not being bright serves as the foundation for tumor formation,frenetic stirring of ministerial fire signifies the initiation of tumorigenesis,internal generation of phlegm and blood stasis reflects the progressive development of tumor,and debilitation in both sovereign fire and ministerial fire indicates tumor progression.Based on this understanding,it is believed that clinical prevention and treatments of malignant tumors can start from the following aspects:regulating desire and adjusting emotion to clarify sovereign fire,returning fire back to its origin to suppress ministerial fire,resolving phlegm and dispelling blood stasis to eliminate tumor mass,and subduing yang and banking up earth to restore healthy qi.
