A case of extending the progression-free survival of retroperitoneal malignant tumor with Chinese medicine was reported.The patient was diagnosed with primary retroperitoneal high-grade serous carcinoma due to an elevated CA125 level and a retroperitoneal space-occupying lesion.Four cycles of paclitaxel albumin combined with carboplatin chemotherapy were administered,followed by two cycles of single-agent albumin-paclitaxel chemotherapy.After treatment,CA125 decreased to normal level and the retroperitoneal mass shrunk.The therapeutic effect was evaluated as partial relief.After that,the patient refused chemotherapy,surgery,or targeted therapy and requested pure Chinese medicine treatment.In the first stage,the treatment focused on supplementing qi and nourishing blood,promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis.After treatment,symptoms such as bone marrow suppression and peripheral neurotoxicity caused by chemotherapy were alleviated.In the second stage,the treatment focused on both attacking pathogenic factors and supplementing healthy qi,Longshe Yang-quan Decoction(龙蛇羊泉汤)was administered with additional ingredients to benefit qi and nourish blood.In the third stage,the healthy qi had been restored,and the treatment focused on attacking toxins and fighting cancer,with Pinggan Xiaoyi Formula(平肝消燚方)as the primary prescription.By solely using Chinese medicine for maintenance treatment,the tumor recurrence and metastasis were effectively controlled and the life quality of the patient was improved.The patient achieved a progression-free survival period of 28 months,with the tumor continuously shrinking slowly.
