Neuroanatomical Basis of the Theory of"Yiyuan Sanqi"in Guiding Clinical Treatment of Ovarian Functional Diseases
According to the characteristics of the governor, conception and thoroughfare meridians circulation, different medical practitioners apply acupuncture and moxibustion at acupoints along the three meridians to treat uterine diseases.The"meridian-viscera correlation"theory reveals the interrelation between meridians and viscera.Under the guidance of this theory, acupuncture and moxibustion are effective in the treatment of ovarian functional diseases. This method of selecting acupoints is consistent with the theory of"meridian-viscera correlation".Under the guidance of this acupoint selection principle, acupuncture and moxibustion has remarkable effect on ovarian functional diseases. This paper reviews the study on neurobiological mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion effect, and finds that the autonomic nerve is involved in the regulation of ovarian function through two neural pathways, the superior ovarian nerve and the ovarian plexus nerve, while the nerve conduction of the two pathways, the celiac ganglion-superior ovarian nerve and the superior mesenteric ganglion-ovarian plexus nerve, has a certain overlap with the origin and part of the running routes of the governor, conception and thoroughfare meridians. This may be neurobio-logical evidence for the governor, conception and thoroughfare meridians treatment of ovarian functional diseases. Therefore, this paper further discusses the overlapping points between the governor, conception and thoroughfare meridians and the superior ovarian nerve and the ovarian plexus nerve respectively from the perspectives of neural anatomy and acupoints conduction, with a prospect of providing ideas for the in-depth study of the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of ovarian functional diseases.
