Vascular cognitive impairment(VCI)is a cognitive impairment secondary to vascular disease.There is no specific therapy at present,and the clinical treatment is difficult.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)believes that the brain and heart co-govern the spirit,so the disease of VCI lies in the brain and heart,which have more connections in the physiology and pathology both in TCM and modern medicine.Professor WANG Songling has applied"simultaneous treatment of brain and heart"into the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases through long term clinical practice based on the holistic concept of TCM and the idea of syndrome differentiation and treatment,which has a definite effect in the clinical treatment of VCI through tonifying qi and blood,supplementing essence and marrow to nourish the heart and brain,promoting qi and blood circulation,activating channels and collaterals to dredge the heart and brain collaterals,expelling phlegm and detoxifying to open the orifices of the heart and brain with pungent fragrance,and preventing diseases.
