Beloved, one of the most popular books of Toni Morrison who is an established American black woman writer, moulds different fates of the black people under slavery system. Through analyzing the rough love and the deformed maternal love of Sethe who is the heroine of Beloved, this paper mainly focuses on the contradictions in her character and the reasons they formed.
