On the Three-dimension Features of Central Literature Terms and Their English Translation
Between 2015 and 2016,the Central Compilation&Translation Bureau officially issued 312 central literature terms along with their English versions. This paper applies the theory of Eco-translatology to analyze the linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions of these terms and their translations. The analyses reveal that the terms exhibit features such as the use of phrases and metaphors at a linguistic level, relative monosemy at a cultural level, and meaningful exactness and seriousness at a communicative level.Additionally, the features are translated by employing methods that take all three dimensions into consideration, including a comprehensive use of literal translation, free translation, translating meaning, paraphrase, and explanational translation, among others. This study provides insights that can be beneficial for the translation of similar central literature and its pivotal or trending terms to enhance understanding of China.
