Using Internet resources such as Map World,Geospatial Data Cloud,and the CSDN forum,along with data from the Second National Census of Geographical Names and Shaoguan Gazetteer,this study employs GIS technology and mathematical statistics to analyze the characteristics of the spatial distribution of 16,776 settlement names in Shaoguan.By applying quantitative methods to complement qualitative knowledge,the research aims to enhance the understanding of the natural and social conditions of Shaoguan and strengthen geographical recognition.The results indicate that natural environment toponyms in the study area are primarily distributed in the northwest mountains,the central plain area,and the Zhenjiang River basin.Place names associated with the social environment are mainly concentrated in urban areas,Nanxiong,and other regions with a certain economic foundation and favorable conditions for water and land transportation.
