Study of Motivation in Biochemistry Course Among Biology'Undergraduates at Local Colleges&Universities——Taking Shaoguan University as an Example
The motivation for learning core courses in biochemistry among sophomore undergraduate students at Shaoguan University were investigated by questionnaire. It focuses on students'cognitive intrinsic motivation,self-enhancement intrinsic motivation, and extrinsic motivation. With no significant differences observed among students in terms of gender, major, and class, the survey data were analyzed for homogeneity of variances using Levene's test and independent sample t-tests.The results revealed that there were no significant differences in the responses between different genders in all survey questions. However, significant differences were found in the responses to the fourth and thirteenth questions among students from different majors.Further analysis showed significant differences in the responses to the thirteenth and fourteenth questions among students from different classes. This indicates that there are no significant differences in students'motivation for learning biochemistry based on gender, but there are significant differences in certain aspects of motivation based on major and class. Therefore, the following recommendations are proposed:fostering a positive class environment to enhance students'intrinsic motivation, diversifying learning motivations by integrating considerations for postgraduate studies and future employment, and improving teaching methods to stimulate interest and autonomy in learning.By implementing these strategies,it is possible to increase students'self-directed study time, promote active learning, and ultimately enhance the quality of biochemistry courses at local undergraduate institutions.
