In the summer and autumn of 1944,more than 200 progressive young people from Sun Yat-sen University successively joined the Dongjiang Column,a Guangdong armed force of the Communist Party of China(CPC)that insisted on resisting Japan.It is a splendid chapter in the history of Southern China education and youth movements in Guangdong.By exploring the historical reasons for the occurrence of this event,it can be found that in addition to some young people having CPC membership and early organizational mobilization by the CPC,there were also major factors such as the fertile ground at Sun Yat-sen University for nurturing progressive youth,the proactive strengthening of the CPC's construction work by the Guangdong Provincial Committee in Northern Guangdong,outstanding united front skills of CPC members at the university,and the positive appeal of the mission of"anti-Japanese salvation".
