Airway epithelium and epithelial-derived cytokines in asthma:reflection and outlook
The airway epithelium plays a central role in the pathogenesis of asthma by tightly interacting with immune cells and finely regulating the formation of the airway microenvironment.Epithelial-derived cytokines have been recog-nized as key players in triggering and sustaining airway inflammation in asthma, making them attractive targets for the development of novel asthma drugs. This article provides an overview of the role of the airway epithelium and its derived cytokines in asthma,as well as the progress in research on targeted drugs, offering new perspectives and insights for related studies.
