Characteristics and Enlightenment of Moral Concept Construction in American Children's Picture Books:Case Studies of"the Caldecott Medal"Gold Award Picture Books
In order to carry forward the excellent traditional culture and inherit the fine moral values of China,this research analyzed 13 picture books which won"The Caldecott Medal"Gold Award such as Snowflake Bentley from the perspective of text and images,and explored the expression and construction characteristics of moral values in them.It is found that the picture books mainly present the plot by narrating the five difficulties encountered by the protagonist,five strategies,five final outcomes,and also the three metaphors of color,time and space used to reveal the deep meaning of the picture books.The construction of moral values in American children's picture books has four characteristics:"positive role shaping and model power","infiltration and guidance of emotional education","imperceptible moral values",and"application of American culture and historical elements".It's necessary to optimize and innovate our original picture books through four ways:"shaping characters with a contrast to reality","strengthening the connection between image elements and moral values","integrating individual roles into the broader context of family,nation,and society",and"integrating into the content of traditional Chinese moral values",so as to help children establish a sense of national values and identity through picture book reading,and enhance cultural self-respect and confidence.
