The seeds of Quercus liaotungensis from 20 different provenances were collected in the natural distribution area of Shanxi province to breed seedlings,the growth traits were analyzed and genetic parameter were estimated with 3-year-old seedlings as the material.Results showed that the 3-year-old seedlings of Quercus liaotungensis from different provenances were significantly different in seedling height and ground diameter.The heritability of seedling height and ground diameter were 0.810 2 and 0.801 3 respectively.5 provenances(No.20,No.6,No.16,No.11 and No.3)were selected from 20 provenances according to the selection rate was 25％,which were the best provenances in Shanxi province.The average ge-netic gain of seedling height and ground diameter of 5 elite Quercus liaotungensis provenances were 18.18％ and 18.28％respectively,and the average genetic progress were 14.31％ and 14.53％ respectively.
