Effects of Drought Stress on the Growth and Physiological Characteristics of Populus Alba and Populus Cathayana
4 treatments including control,mild,moderate and severe drought stress were set up under potted conditions to study the effects of drought stress on the growth and physiological characteristics of Populus alba and Populus cathayana.The results indicated that mild drought stress would not have a significant impact on the height and diameter of Populus al-ba,but would significantly reduce the height and diameter of Populus cathayana.Moderate and severe drought stress would significantly reduce the height and diameter of Populus alba and Populus cathayana.Mild drought stress would not have a significant impact on the SOD activity and sucrose synthase activity of Populus alba,while moderate and severe drought stress would significantly increase the SOD activity,POD activity,CAT activity and reduce the sucrose synthase activity.Comprehensive analysis suggested that moderate and severe drought stress could significantly inhibit the growth of Populus alba and Populus cathayana,increase the antioxidant enzyme activity and reduce the sucrase activity.
