Effect of Selenium Foliar Spray on the Physiological Characteristics of Wheat Seedlings under Drought Stress
The effects of different concentration of selenium on growth and physiological characteristics of wheat at seedling stage were studied under the PEG (drought) stress, which provided a theoretical basis to resist drought and supplement selenium in wheat.Wheat seedlings were treated with different selenium concentration (20,40,60 mg/L) under drought stress. The paper investigated the effect of different concentration of selenium on the plant height, root length, root numbers, fresh and dry quality and the content of chlorophyll of wheat at seedling stage. The changes of MDA and O2-· content, the activities of SOD,POD were also analyzed. The results showed that the different concentration of selenium could obviously increase the plant height, root length, root numbers and fresh quality, dry quality of wheat seedlings, decrease the content of MDA and O2-·,and increase the activities of SOD,POD and chlorophyll content. It suggested that exogenous application of selenium on the growth of wheat seedlings under PEG stress had a certain mitigation, especially in the treatment of 40 mg/L selenium.
