The heavy metal mercury (Hg) in the soil can accumulate in crops, posing a health threat to humans by the food chain. To study the heavy metal mercury absorption and accumulation differences in different maize varieties and tissues, and to select and breed maize lines with low mercury accumulation, the differences of mercury absorption and accumulation were detected using 230 elite inbred lines as materials planted on two environments. The results showed that the Hg concentrations for the five measured maize tissues in the population were significantly affected by environment (E),genotype (G),and G × E factors. The Hg concentrations in different maize tissues followed the order:leaves > bracts > stems > axis > kernels. Some low accumulation materials were identified, which will provide material foundation for breeding maize variety with low accumulation and genetic research.
