Gu Zhentao,a Suzhou scholar in the mid-Qing Dynasty, had never stopped writing all his life, particularly keen on describing the past and compiling chronicles. He wrote more than 20 books, including A Supplementary Account of Suzhou. The book A Minor Chronicle of Guangfu Quanzhen Taoist Temple collected in the Suzhou Library now sees Gu Zhentao's articles and poems throughout the book, from the Preface, the Introduction to the Temple's Pictures and the Ac-count of Restoring the Temple Stele to the Articles and the Afterword.Judging from the contents and authors of the Articles, the largest part of the book, most articles and poems were written by Gu Zhentao's relatives, friends, teachers and students upon his invitation.Obviously,Gu Zhentao played a critical role in the compilation of the Chronicle. The reason why Gu Zhentao compiled a chronicle for a Taoist temple that was located in a remote place with neither a long history nor profound cultural heritage is that its Abbot Ma Liangyu's moral character happened to be in line with his own value pursuit and his purpose of compiling chronicles and promoting unknown virtues, since Abbot Ma farmed diligently, treated people kindly, abode by Taoist rules and observed filial piety.
