After the second-round chronicle compilation was fully completed,the third round became a new focus.Based on a systematic review of the planning and launch of the third-round chronicle compilation,this paper particularly delves into the top-level design for the third round and proposes that the regional comprehensive chronicles planned by the state should include township chronicles and thus consist of provincial,municipal,county,and township levels.The planned county/district-level chronicles should be mainly composed of"one chronicle+chronicle series",supplemented by"one chronicle".For provincial chronicles,"multiple series","a single series",and"one chronicle+chronicle se-ries"are all acceptable.Each province can make its own decision as appropriate.It is better to compile regional compre-hensive chronicles in the form of"incomplete general chronicles"or"atypical period chronicles",and the cut-off time should be unified within the province.Chronicle compilation should embrace new technologies,especially the compilation based on the internet technologies.This paper also proposes that at least four relationships should be handled well to im-prove the quality of local chronicles.
