As a leader in the Chinese modernization,Shanghai is seeing rapid development of chronicle compilation.During the second round of chronicle compilation,Shanghai worked to make the compilation institutional,procedural,nor-malized and law-based,bringing about three major compilation systems—municipal chronicles,municipal special chroni-cles,and district/county chronicles.In particular,the second-round compilation practice of municipal chronicles retained the essence of the first-round compilation,made innovations,and summarized a series of successful experiences and prac-tices in terms of duration and amount,system and structure,genre and form,innovation and characteristics,talent and teams,norms and quality,and assessment and publication.Shanghai's municipal chronicles have demonstrated institutional top-level design,profound theories,highlighted practices,distinct people-oriented thinking,multi-party collaboration,and deep global perspectives.The municipal chronicles deliver a panoramic view of the Chinese characteristics,the charac-teristics of the times,and local characteristics in Shanghai's development.Their theoretical innovation and practical explora-tion have attracted wide attention and highlighted the"Shanghai experience"in exploring the Chinese modernization.
