In local chronicles,the music-related content is massive,fragmentary,and jumbled,and thus cannot be organized like specialized music books.To make better use of the historical literature in local chronicles,this paper takes Lingnan music as an example to classify the music-related content based on their sources,recording symbols,information levels,and disciplines.The sources consist of such categories as"customs","schools","arts and literature","ethnic minorities",and"political affairs".The recording symbols consist of pictures,musical scores and texts.The information levels consist of zeroth literature,bibliography,and primary literature.The disciplines include"instrumental music","songs,"folk arts","dramas",and"dances".
