Zhi Tu refers to the charts in local chronicles.There is a Chinese proverb that says,"No charts,no chroni-cles."More than two thousand years of practice in compiling local chronicles shows that the accuracy of recognizing and ap-plyingthe charts will directly affect and determine the quality of the chronicles.Therefore,this paper both reviews the aca-demic discussion on Zhi Tu and explores how it is applied to the new local chronicles,in order to gain a scientific under-standing of it and summarize experience in addressing the problems in previous applications,including the experience of chart compilation and text explanation accumulated in the first and second rounds of compilation of local chronicles,thereby providing reference and inspiration for future chart compilation in local chronicles.
