摘要
桐城派名家方东树曾受聘担任《江宁府志》《广东通志》的分纂,参与方志编纂,并撰写《新修江宁府志·序》《连山绥猺厅志·序》两篇序文,亦为他人代写《安徽通志·序》和《重修太湖县志·序》.方东树的志序涉及到方志理论和方志编纂的相关内容.方东树认为如果因为修志难而不愿意去修志,这是不足取的,只要有决心和毅力,方志编纂就一定能完成;指出方志内容应丰富而全面;强调所收内容应有益于世教和资政,以实现方志存史、资政、教化的作用;提倡方志编纂应稽考文牍、广泛搜集资料,并做到文简事核.方东树还从多层面对方志的起源进行了梳理.方东树所做的思考和总结是在参与方志编纂的基础上建立的.
Abstract
Fang Dongshu,an esteemed scholar of the Tongcheng School,contributed to the compilation of the Chroni-cles of Jiangning Prefecture and the Chronicles of Guangdong.He authored two prefaces,the Preface to the New Chronicles of Jiangning Prefecture and the Preface to the Chronicle of Yao Affairs Administrative Office in Lianshan,as well as prefaces for others,including the Preface to Anhui Chronicles and the Preface to the New Chronicles of Taihu County.These prefaces encapsulate his theories on the compilation of local chronicles.Fang Dongshu advocated against abandoning chronicle com-pilation due to its challenges,emphasizing that determination and perseverance are keys to success.He argued that chroni-cles should be rich and comprehensive,promoting orthodox ethics,aiding state governance,and fulfilling the roles of pre-serving history,advising on governance,and educating the populace.He urged chroniclers to conduct thorough research,gather extensive information,and ensure textual brevity and factual accuracy.Fang Dongshu also undertook a multidimen-sional collation of the origins of local chronicles,with his thoughts and conclusions grounded in his direct engagement with chronicle compilation.
