Analysis of the Status Quo and Influencing Factors Associated with Family Resilience Among Family Caregivers of Colorectal Cancer Patients
Objective To explore the status quo and influencing factors associated with family resilience among family caregivers of colorectal cancer patients. Methods A total of 327 family caregivers were selected by convenience sampling who cared for colorectal cancer patients admitted to the colorectal surgery department of a Grade Ⅲ-A cancer hospital in Yunnan Province from March to July 2022.They were investigated by using the General Demographic Questionnaire and the Family Resilience Assessment Scale(FRAS).Statistically significant variables from univariate analysis were included in multiple regression for multivariate analysis. Results The FRAS score was(147.08±13.91)points for the 327 family caregivers of colorectal cancer patients.Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed several influencing factors associated with family resilience of family caregivers:1)caregivers'level of education,2)caregivers'role as the primary earner in the family or not,3)caregivers'proficiency in care skills,4)availability of social support,5)care burden, and 6)patients on other treatments or not(such as targeted therapy,TCM therapy and immunotherapy)(P<0.05).Conclusion The family resilience score for family caregivers of colorectal cancer patients is above average. While focusing on the conditions of colorectal cancer patients, healthcare providers should also identify family caregivers who have influencing factors associated with a low level of family resilience(limited education, poor care skills, insufficient social support, heavy care burden, patients on other treatments, not being the primary earner in the family, etc.),then timely evaluate their family resilience and carry out targeted interventions to enhance both family adaptation and patient recovery.
