Effect of WeChat-based Health Coaching on Blood Glucose and Quality of Life of Diabetic Patients in Nursing Homes
Objective To explore the effect of WeChat-based health coaching on blood glucose and quality of life of diabetic patients in nursing homes. Methods From May 2021 to May 2022,47 patients were selected by lottery from two nursing homes respectively that have established a contractual partnership with a Grade Ⅲ-A hospital in Zhenjiang. The patients selected from nursing home A were assigned to the control group(n=47)while those selected from nursing home B were assigned to the observation group(n=47).The control group was given routine nursing care, mainly including lectures on diabetes-related knowledge;the observation group,on this basis, was given WeChat-based health coaching. The incidence of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia, fasting blood glucose(FBG),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)and scores of Diabetes-Specific Quality of Life Scale(DSQOLS)were compared before intervention and 6 months after intervention. Results After 6 months of intervention, the FBG,HbA1c,incidence of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia and DSQOLS scores in the observation group were statistically lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion WeChat-based health coaching is worthy of clinical application as it can help diabetic patients in nursing homes effectively control their blood glucose levels, reduce the incidence of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia and improve their quality of life.
