Effect of Emotional Freedom Techniques on Patients with Moderate to High Degree Demoralization on Maintenance Hemodialysis
Objective To investigate the effect of emotional freedom techniques on patients with moderate to high degree demoralization on maintenance hemodialysis(MHD).Methods A total of 88 patients were selected by convenience sampling who were admitted to the outpatient hemodialysis center of a Grade Ⅲ-A Chinese medicine hospital in Changchun from July to December 2022.They were randomly divided into the control group(n=44)and the observation group(n=44).The control group was given routine care, while the observation group was given emotional freedom techniques(tune-in,acupoint tapping, emotional desensitization and feedback)on this basis. After 4 months of intervention, the Distress Thermometer(DT),Demoralization Scale-Ⅱ(DS-Ⅱ)and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS)were used to evaluate the intervention effect in both groups. Results A total of 81 patients(41 in the control group and 40 in the observation group)completed the study. After 4 weeks of intervention, the scores of DT,DS-Ⅱ and its two dimensions as well as HADS were lower than those before intervention in both groups, and the observation group demonstrated superior scores compared to the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Emotional freedom techniques can reduce the level of psychological distress and demoralization in MHD patients with moderate to high degree demoralization, and relieve their anxiety and depression.
